Maintenance
Tiger Deck does not require sealant if you are not concerned with preserving color and reducing fine ‘spider web’ face checking. Without sealant, Tiger Deck will go through a color transformation from its natural state to a deeper red tone and eventually silver.
Preserving the natural color of Tiger Deck will require 1-3 coats of UV sealant per year depending on your local climate. To determine whether your deck is ready for another coat, we recommend the wet test: If you like the way your deck looks when it's wet, but not when it's dry, your deck is ready for another coat of sealant.
Our customers have had the most success with either Penofin Exotic Hardwood Penetrating Oil or Messmer’s U.V. Plus for Hardwoods for UV protection and finishing material.
Apply a New Coat of Sealant
Start by washing the deck with deck brightener or soap and water. Let it dry completely.
Apply a coat of sealant when there is no direct sunlight and when your deck is dry and cool. Roll the oil on the deck (we use a fine knap long handled paint roller). Once you finish the first application, we recommend you go over the whole deck with a clean towel wrapped around a shop broom. It’s not necessary to wipe the deck dry, but it helps to spread the sealant evenly and sop up the excess. To coat vertical surfaces, use a small towel soaked in sealant then wrung out to apply a very light coat without excess.
