History

We spent more than two years testing over 40 different hardwood species from around the world at our own manufacturing facility in Washington state before selecting tigerwood (Astonium) as the specie of choice. Factors involved in the decision were availability—it grows from southern Mexico to Argentina; it is not listed on any threatened or endangered species listings; its striking appearance; its durability—naturally resistant to decay; and its fine finishing qualities. We developed our own drying schedule to stabilize the product for our suggested uses. In addition, we have developed the first integrally designed hidden fastening system for use with hardwoods. This system received a patent in 2002. Tiger Deck is the first hardwood decking to achieve American Lumber Standard (ALS) grade rule standards and to have our deck boards grade stamped to ensure grade conformance and reliability.
